Kickstarter has removed a project that was previously promoted on their platform. “The Old Blood – A Bloodborne Prequel Graphic Novel” fanfic by Elvis J.S. Phillips was taken down.
The Old Blood – A Bloodborne Prequel Graphic Novel was successfully funded on Kickstarter, raising a total of $289,221 from 1,951 backers. The project was created by Elvis J.S. Phillips, also known as YouTuber Elvis The Alien and the founder of Ayylien Clothing. However, the project was unofficial as the Bloodborne comic book license is owned by Titan Comics. Despite this, it was chosen as the Kickstarter Reads Project Of The Day in April.

Now, a few months later, after raising a significant amount of money, the “fan-made graphic novel that encompasses all of the events that lead up to the start of the game Bloodborne” is facing a legal challenge. Kickstarter has stated that the graphic novel is currently unavailable due to an intellectual property dispute. It is surprising that Kickstarter was unaware of this situation, considering the earlier tweets.
Elvis J.S. Phillips previously mentioned on their page that if Sony or FromSoftware wanted to shut down the project, they would fight their case. They assured backers that they would be fully refunded in the worst-case scenario. It is unclear whether refunds were issued, as there has been no update on their social media platforms.
Last year, Titan Comics released the official Bloodborne comic book, “Bloodborne: Lady Of Lanterns” by Cullen Bunn and Piotr Kowalski. They are now continuing with a new comic, “Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion,” which will be released in September 2023.
