‘Barcelona’s ‘Bird Box’ Trailer Takes Terror to New Heights’

Four and a half years ago, Netflix achieved tremendous success with its dystopian thriller “Bird Box,” starring Sandra Bullock. This blockbuster film quickly became a sensation, breaking records and captivating audiences worldwide. In fact, within just four weeks of its release, it garnered views from 89 million households, solidifying its position as Netflix’s most-watched film for three consecutive years. Recognizing the potential for a franchise, Netflix announced its plans in March 2021 to produce a series of spinoffs exploring different stories from around the globe. Now, after two years of anticipation, audiences will soon witness the arrival of “Bird Box Barcelona,” a Spanish-language film set to release on July 14.

If you haven’t revisited the intense narrative of “Bird Box” in the past five years, the original film follows the survival journey of Malorie Hayes (played by Sandra Bullock) and her two children in the face of a cataclysmic event. From the outset, the audience is thrust into a world where a mysterious force compels people to take their own lives after seeing it. Alongside an exceptional cast including John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Rel Howery, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Tom Hollander, and Sarah Paulson, Bullock’s character does everything she can to avoid direct eye contact by covering windows and wearing blindfolds, all to ensure her family’s safety.

In the upcoming spinoff film, “Bird Box Barcelona,” audiences will witness the Spanish city succumbing to chaos as the unexplained suicides plague its inhabitants. Panic spreads like wildfire, as citizens struggle to comprehend the devastation and search for a path to survival. Similar to the original film, this spinoff centers around a parent and child relationship. The dedicated father, Sebastian (Mario Casas), fights to protect himself and his daughter, Anna (Alejandra Howard). Netflix has hinted at even higher stakes in this installment, as Sebastian and Anna encounter unexpected allies in their quest for safety.
