Ark 2 Pushed to Late 2024, but an Upgraded Ark: Survival Evolved Will Launch in August

In a recent update, Studio Wildcard has confirmed that the highly anticipated game, Ark 2, will be delayed until the end of 2024. Originally scheduled for release in 2023, the developers have decided to postpone the game to ensure an even better final product. Despite the delay, Ark 2 is still set to launch exclusively on Xbox consoles, Xbox Game Pass, and PC. The utilization of the new Unreal Engine 5 technology has required adjustments to the development process, leading to the extended timeline.

As a consolation to fans, Studio Wildcard has announced a remastered version of the original Ark: Survival Evolved. However, it should be noted that this remaster will not be a free upgrade for existing owners. The team at Studio Wildcard expressed their excitement about utilizing the cutting-edge technology of Unreal Engine 5 to create a game with unprecedented scope. They have adapted their workflows and pipelines to accommodate this next-generation paradigm, which has contributed to the need for additional development time. They have assured fans that they will regularly showcase game assets in the coming months, leading up to a reveal next year.

To enhance the player experience, Studio Wildcard has decided to develop Ark: Survival Ascended, a remastered version of the game built on the next-gen Unreal Engine 5. This version, set to release by the end of August, will feature modernized graphics, support for cross-platform modding and multiplayer, and a new ‘account system’ to gather feedback and suggestions for Ark 2’s development. Due to the extensive technical and quality-of-life changes required for this next-gen experience, it has been deemed necessary to release this as a separate product, making it incompatible with the current version of Ark. As a result, all official servers for Ark: Survival Evolved will be shut down, and players will be encouraged to host their own servers or play on single-player and non-dedicated servers.

For players on PC and Xbox Series S/X, an ultimate bundle called the Ark Respawned Bundle will be available, which includes ownership of both Ark: Survival Ascended and Ark 2 upon its release. This bundle, priced at $49.99, can be purchased from the end of August until the following year, after which both games will be sold separately. Additionally, bundle owners will receive one-month exclusive closed beta access to Ark 2 in 2024. PS5 users can acquire Ark: Survival Ascended as a standalone title for $39.99. Expansion packs will be sold separately on all platforms.

Unfortunately, this update has caused some disappointment among fans, as Studio Wildcard had previously hinted at a free upgrade for Ark: Survival Evolved on Unreal Engine 5. Negative reviews have been left on Steam, with players expressing frustration about being required to repurchase the game. Nevertheless, Studio Wildcard remains committed to delivering a high-quality gaming experience.

In summary, Ark 2 will now launch in late 2024, and the remastered version, Ark: Survival Ascended, is expected to be released in August. Despite the delay, the Studio Wildcard team is dedicated to utilizing innovative technology and creating a game that exceeds expectations.
