Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues to swing higher and higher in theaters, surpassing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s entire box office run in a remarkable 12 days. According to Comscore, the film has raked in over $390 million in global earnings, taking the crown from the original Spider-Verse film that earned $377 million throughout its box office run. While it may be a lofty goal, the sequel now has its sights set on The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s global earnings of $708.9 million. It’s worth noting that Spider-Man: No Way Home is still the current #1 Spidey film, taking in an unprecedented $1.91 billion worldwide.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse couldn’t secure a second weekend box office victory due to the strong opening of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which earned $60.5 million domestically and $170.5 million globally. Nonetheless, Across the Spider-Verse put up a good fight, earning $55.42 million in North America.
In its third weekend, The Little Mermaid placed third in theaters, earning $22.79 million domestically, bringing its total to $228.81 million. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earned $7.02 million domestically, taking fourth place, and The Boogeyman rounded out the top five with domestic box office ticket sales reaching $6.91 million.
