According to reports, the Pixel 8 series is expected to capture superior low-light photos compared to its predecessor.

With their advanced software and algorithms, Google’s Pixel phones have always been renowned for their ability to capture exceptional photographs. However, in recent years, Google has also focused on enhancing the hardware of its cameras, leading to the introduction of a new primary sensor and a macro mode in the Pixel 6 series. Now, leaked details have revealed what the upcoming Pixel 8 series will offer in terms of camera performance.

According to a report by AndroidAuthority, the most significant change this year is the shift to a new primary sensor for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The new Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor is larger than its predecessor, and promises to capture 35% more light than the GN1. This should result in better low-light images on the Pixel 8 series.

The new sensor also supports 8K video recording at 30 frames per second, but this feature may not be available to users due to software limitations and overheating issues. Furthermore, the sensor will bring Staggered HDR, which reduces the delay between frames captured for HDR processing, improving Google’s HDR+ technology’s dependability and speed.

The Pixel 8 Pro will receive a significant upgrade to its ultrawide camera, replacing the old 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with a much newer and larger 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor, which will increase the quality and detail of ultrawide shots. The regular Pixel 8 will also see an improvement in its ultrawide camera but not as pronounced as that of the Pixel 8 Pro. According to AndroidAuthority, the Pixel 8 will utilize the same Sony IMX386 sensor but with a wider lens.

The telephoto camera and selfie camera on the Pixel 8 series remain unchanged from the Pixel 7 series, according to the leaks.

More notable is that the Pixel 8 Pro will feature a built-in thermometer, according to reports. You can read more about it here.

The Pixel 8 series is expected to launch later this year, and as the release date approaches, we can expect to hear more rumors and leaks about the devices.
