Joining Farmiga in the cast is Bonnie Aarons, who will reprise her role as Valak, the terrifying nun who haunts the Farmiga sisters. Aarons first played this role in The Conjuring 2, alongside Vera Farmiga‘s Lorraine Warren, before getting her own chilling origin story in The Nun. Jonas Bloquet will also return as Frenchie, a character introduced in the first The Conjuring film through exorcism footage shown by Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine during their lectures. In addition to the returning cast members, The Nun 2 will feature new additions to the franchise, including Storm Reid (The Last of Us), Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia), and Katelyn Rose Downey (The Princess).

Popplewell will portray Marcella, a school teacher, while Downey will play her daughter Sophie. During an interview with Perri Nemiroff, Reid expressed excitement about her character, stating that she adds uniqueness to the story. Reid is confident that fans will love the upcoming addition to the horror franchise, describing it as a captivating watch. The new trailer introduces Reid’s character and sets up a thrilling confrontation between Sister Irene and the fallen angel Valak.

The Future of The Conjuring Franchise

The Nun 2 is just the beginning for The Conjuring franchise. Wilson and Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren in the fourth installment of the central story. The Conjuring 4 will be penned by The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and it is expected to be based on another real case file of the Warrens. Director and franchise producer James Wan emphasized the importance of getting the story right and doing justice to the emotional depth of the Warrens’ experiences.

In addition to the film series, Warner Bros. is also developing a The Conjuring television series for their Max streaming service. While details are scarce, the series is said to continue the story from the feature films. Fans are hopeful that Wilson and Farmiga will be involved in the project. The series will be produced by Wan and Peter Safran of DC Studios.
