Despite both the writers’ and actors’ strikes that are finally over, James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Legacy will be keeping its release date of July 11, 2025.
Gunn took to Twitter to share the news, saying it’s all thanks to the team behind the film that they are continuing to be on track.

“Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025,” Gunn wrote.
While the film is a bit less than two years away, this news still arrives as many shows and movies have seen their productions impacted.

In our look, we noted that Gunn had already completed the script for Superman: Legacy and had cast his Superman and Lois Lane just before the actors announced their strikes.
This news will be most welcome for those who can’t wait for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU, as David Corenswet’s Superman, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, and the rest of Superman: Legacy’s cast will be the ones to kick this new era of DC.
We are continuing to learn about the status of the many TV shows and movies on the horizon now that the 118-day actors’ strike and the 148-day writers’ strike are over. This includes the news that Deadpool 3 will be the only MCU movie in 2024 and that House of the Dragon Season 2 will now premiere in early summer 2024.
