Exploring Elon Musk’s ‘X’ Group: An Insight into Its Member Companies,_operations and Other Intriguing Details

We weren’t necessarily surprised, but the announcement was unexpected. Elon Musk has decided to rebrand Twitter as the ‘X’ app. You might think it’s a new idea, but it actually dates back to 1999. Let’s delve into the origins of ‘X’, the companies involved, and other interesting details.

So, when did the concept of ‘X’ emerge?
In a tweet, author Walter Isaacson shared excerpts from his upcoming book on Musk. According to Isaacson, back in 1999, Musk registered X.com with the intention of creating a comprehensive platform for people’s financial needs. It was meant to be a one-stop-shop for banking, digital purchases, checking, credit cards, investments, and loans. The idea was to enable instant, secure, and real-time transactions. Notably, X.com was also the original name of PayPal, which Musk co-founded.

Multiple reports confirm that Musk purchased the domain name X.com in 2017.

What is the X group of companies?
Initially, the X group of companies, also known as X Corp, included SpaceX and Neuralink. Later on, Tesla became a part of it as well. Finally, in April 2023, Musk made the announcement that Twitter would no longer exist as an independent company, and it would now be a part of X Corp.

Which are the main companies included in X Corp?
SpaceX is a private space exploration company founded by Musk. Its objective is to make space travel more affordable and accessible. The company has pioneered various innovative technologies such as reusable rockets and Dragon spacecraft.

Another company in the X Corp family is Neuralink. Founded by Musk in 2016, Neuralink focuses on neurotechnology. Their goal is to develop brain-computer interfaces that empower people with disabilities to control devices using their minds. Neuralink has made significant progress in developing implantable brain chips that could potentially treat neurological disorders and enable humans to merge with artificial intelligence.

And lastly, there’s Twitter, now officially known as X. In fact, Musk disclosed that accessing the X.com URL would redirect you to Twitter.com. Musk spent a considerable amount of time tweeting about Twitter as X, including discussions on its new logo and the possibility of changing the color theme from blue to black.
