His continued presence will allow him to further explore the central conflict of his Doctor character.

Due to the demanding nature of a single season, actors typically do not play the role for more than a couple of years, as they use Doctor Who as a platform to propel their careers. Previous actors like Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi enjoyed their time as the TARDIS pilot before moving on to other projects they had long been wanting to work on.
The Doctor’s body undergoes a process called regeneration, where it changes as a means of survival when the Doctor is about to die. Jodie Whittaker was the most recent actor to embody the role for several seasons, making history as the first woman to play the Doctor in an established version of the character.
