Rogers raises connection fee to $60

It seems that Rogers is once again raising its connection fee. The company’s “Setup Service Fee” has now increased to $60, up from the previous charge of $50.

The new pricing can be found on the Rogers website, specifically in the hidden full details section below its mobile plans. Customers can still avoid the fee by using self-serve options, but if they opt for Live Chat, Customer Service, or in-store services, Rogers will impose the $60 fee. It’s worth noting that Rogers does waive the fee for customers with visual impairments.

Rogers’ increased connection fee as of June 30th, 2023

As of now, Rogers’ flanker brand Fido still charges a $50 connection fee. Additionally, Bell, Telus, and their respective flanker brands maintain the $50 connection fee. However, it’s common for all these fees to increase in tandem.

Rogers last raised its connection fee in July 2021, bringing it up from $45 to $50. This change followed similar increases by Bell and Telus, both of which also set their connection fees at $50 that same month.

Prior to that, Rogers’ connection fee went from $40 to $45 in October 2020 and from $35 to $40 in February of the same year.

This latest increase in the connection fee follows Rogers’ decision to reduce the cost of some of its 5G plans in May. It also comes at a time when layoffs are being implemented at the company after the Shaw merger earlier this year.

Update June 30th, 2023 at 1:06pm ET: Additional information has been added to the story, highlighting the exemption of the fee for customers with visual impairments.
