Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: A Comprehensive Review – Even Better than Breath of the Wild! | Gaming and Entertainment

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a game that surpasses its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, in almost every way. With a captivating storyline, creative new abilities for Link, and a kingdom that feels even more alive, Tears of the Kingdom is a masterpiece open-world adventure. While there are still some issues with weapons shattering too easily and occasional dips in the frame-rate, the game’s stronger narrative and innovative abilities more than make up for them.

Set a few years after Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom sees Link and Zelda investigating a mysterious dark energy known as the Gloom. As they uncover more about the Gloom and the game’s big bad, Link loses his arm and wakes up in the floating islands above Hyrule. With Princess Zelda missing and parts of Hyrule experiencing strange phenomenon, Link must explore the world and put things right.

While Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t have the same melancholic atmosphere as Breath of the Wild, the narrative is much stronger overall, with events unfolding in real-time. Link’s Ultrahand ability allows him to create vehicles and other useful objects by piecing together items, providing multiple ways to get past problem areas. His Ascend ability lets him swim upwards through solid surfaces, while his Recall ability lets him rewind various objects and projectiles.

Link’s Fuse ability also comes in handy, letting him fuse materials onto weapons and shields, adding weird and wonderful status effects. While weapons still break too quickly, the ability to create devastating new tools using objects in the surrounding area means you’re never too far from a powerful alternative.

Traditional dungeons make a return in Tears of the Kingdom, containing fantastic puzzles and superb boss battles. Hyrule is jam-packed with secrets to discover and quests to complete, and Shrines make a return, now even more pleasurable to solve.

Considering how much there is to see and do, Tears of the Kingdom performs exceptionally well, with only the occasional dip in the frame rate. The game’s improved abilities make moving between land, sky, and the caverns below Hyrule seamless, with fast-travel the only time-consuming factor.

All in all, Tears of the Kingdom is an outstanding game that improves on Breath of the Wild in almost every aspect. With a 5/5 rating, it will go down as one of the all-time greats and is the best reason to purchase a Nintendo Switch.
