Woman of Tomorrow’ Finds Its Writer

The screenwriter was secretly attached to write another version of the feature for Warner Bros.

The Big Picture

  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has found its writer in Ana Nogueira, signaling a new stage in her career and an exciting opportunity for the popular Kryptonian character.
  • Nogueira had been secretly working on a Supergirl script for The Flash‘s version of the character, which impressed James Gunn and Peter Safran so much that they decided to bring her on board for their new story.
  • While the release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hasn’t been announced, it is part of the first chapter of the new DC franchise titled “Gods and Monsters,” alongside Superman: Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, and The Authority.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is moving forward, with the film based on the DC Comics heroine finding its writer in Ana Nogueira, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be a part of what James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for the future of the brand, after the current iteration of the shared universe is set to end with next month’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. One of the most popular Kryptonian characters from the comic books is about to make her debut, with an experienced writer working on the best concept the studio could use for her story.

Her attachment to the project would represent a new stage for Nogueira’s career, who has also been an actress and a playwright at some point. While she hasn’t written any other major titles yet, she was secretly working on a Supergirl script for the version of the character introduced in The Flash. While Sasha Calle‘s iteration of the hero will apparently be recast for the upcoming shared media universe, The Hollywood Reporter claims that Gunn and Safran liked what she had already worked on so much that they have decided to hire her again for their new story.

A release date hasn’t been set for Kara Zor-El’s adventure on the big screen, with the only movie from the new DC Universe with a confirmed launching point being Superman: Legacy. Currently scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 11, 2025, the film will serve as the first theatrical installment of Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe. David Corenswet will tasked with portraying the new incarnation of the Man of Steel, after Henry Cavill wore the cape and thighs for many years. The future of the DC Universe looks bright, with Gunn and Safran prioritizing the screenwriting process before their characters step in front of the camera.

Supergirl Enters the Future of DC

Both Superman: Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be part of the first chapter of the new franchise, titled “Gods and Monsters”. Other titles included in the current slate are The Brave and the Bold and The Authority, but those films don’t have release dates attached to them, either. While it could be safe to assume that Woman of Tomorrow will be coming next due to the fact that Nogueira has boarded the project as a writer, there’s no telling what Warner Bros. is planning yet. For now, it appears that the new Kara Zor-El’s story is in good hands, and Nogueira has actually signed an overall DC writing deal.

A release date hasn’t been confirmed for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow yet.
