The team of researchers conducted an experiment on around 250 mice, monkeys, and humans in which the blood samples of all subjects were tested and taurine concentrations were measured. Half of the mice population was given a taurine supplement, while the other half was given a control solution. The team observed that consuming taurine supplements increased the average lifespan of both female and male mice by 12% and 10% respectively. Additionally, daily intake of 500-1000 milligrams of taurine supplement per kilogram of body weight was observed to improve strength, coordination, and cognitive functions in the mice. In the case of middle-aged monkeys, researchers also found that those taking taurine supplements daily for six months showed improvements in their immune systems, bone density, and overall metabolic health.
The team also discovered that people with higher taurine levels tend to be healthier and have fewer cases of type 2 diabetes, lower levels of obesity, and inflammation. Hence, the researchers emphasize that anti-aging human clinical trials should include taurine as it may restore taurine to a youthful level in old age, making it a promising anti-aging strategy.
