Meta-owned WhatsApp went down for a brief period on Wednesday night, leaving several users in a fix.
The popular global instant messaging application WhatsApp experienced a significant outage, leading to disruptions for users worldwide, including those in India. Many users encountered difficulties with sending and receiving messages, while others reported issues with updating their WhatsApp status. According to Downdetector, problems began around 11:22 PM on Wednesday and peaked at 11:51 PM, with over 24,000 reports. Despite initially underestimating the extent of the impact, it only took a few minutes for the hashtag #whatsappdown to trend on X (formerly known as Twitter).
WhatsApp users wasted no time and immediately resorted to the microblogging platform to share their issues. From hilarious memes to jokes about Mark Zuckerberg, a series of posts took over the platform in a couple of hours.
A user shared a video clip showing a large crowd rushing to X after WhatsApp went down.
A meme showing Mark Zuckerberg “targeting” couples having chats on WhatsApp left users in splits.
A social media user shared a hilarious post on how he spent his time after WhatsApp went down. “WhatsApp is down globally, so I spent my time counting: My bathroom has 57 tiles; Laxminarayan Chiwda has 36 peanuts; RCB has 0 IPL trophies,” he wrote.

While people have a habit of initially checking if their phones are functioning properly when an app stops working, a user highlighted the same in this funny meme.
A user created an epic scene after WhatsApp went down, taking inspiration from none other than the iconic Johnny Lever.
A post hilariously reflected how social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram go down at least once every month, and the iconic scene from Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots serves it well.
WhatsApp restored
Hours after WhatsApp went down, leaving people in a state of confusion, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta-owned WhatsApp itself reacted to the issue, and the services were restored shortly after that. “We know some people are experiencing issues right now; we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible,” the company shared.
And we’re back. Happy chatting!— WhatsApp (@WhatsApp) April 3, 2024
After a few hours, as the services were finally restored, WhatsApp confirmed the same through another post and wrote, “And we’re back. Happy chatting!”
