In the near future, WhatsApp users will have the incredible opportunity to generate their own stickers using AI prompts. This exciting feature is currently in beta testing in WhatsApp version 2.23.17.14 for Android. If you’re part of the Google Play Store beta program but haven’t received this version yet, don’t worry. WhatsApp is slowly rolling out the feature to a select group of beta testers (via 9to5Google).
Forget “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” — it’s “Cat on a Skateboard” now
The world’s most popular messaging app is keeping the details of this new AI feature under wraps. However, a screenshot on WABetaInfo dedicated to version 2.23.17.14 gives us a glimpse of the AI feature. Take a look:
As shown, there’s a new “Create” button below the stickers tab. Tapping on “Create” takes users to another screen, where they can describe in a few words the type of sticker they want. For example, by entering “Cat laughing on a skateboard,” users should receive a cute white cat riding a red skateboard in anime style, as seen in the screenshot above.
Currently, there isn’t much information on the specific generative AI technology being used in WhatsApp’s new tool. Could it be DALL-E? Regardless, it’s important to monitor and report any issues to Meta if the AI goes rogue. If you come across a generated sticker that you find abusive, inappropriate, or harmful, you can submit a report to Meta.
The AI sticker feature is currently available to a limited group of Android beta testers, and it will be gradually rolling out to more users in the upcoming weeks, according to the source. Perhaps iOS beta testers will be next in line?
