Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Terry Matalas finds inspiration in Warrior Nun and the #SaveWarriorNun campaign to foster “Legacy” hope.

Halo Bearers received exciting news just hours ago. Fans of showrunner Simon Barry’s (Continuum, Van Helsing) Warrior Nun refused to let their beloved show fade away. Their six-month #SaveWarriorNun campaign has triumphed, with Barry confirming that “thanks to your collective voices, passion, and incredible efforts,” Warrior Nun will return “even more EPIC than you can imagine.” This fantastic news has resonated throughout the pop culture landscape and has caught the attention of Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Terry Matalas.

Matalas, retweeting Barry’s announcement, wrote in a tweet, “See fans? You can make a difference!” Matalas was referencing the significant fan push for his “Star Trek: Legacy” concept to become a reality. Matalas envisions a skillful combination of previous franchise lore/canon with new characters and new worlds, similar to what “Picard” Season 3 represents to achieve tremendous success. Here’s a reminder from Matalas himself that fans have the power to make a difference:

And here’s Barry’s late-night tweet, elated to share the good news and promising more details to come:

Created by Barry and inspired by Ben Dunn’s Warrior Nun Areala manga comics, the series follows a 19-year-old woman who awakens in a morgue with a newfound life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order tasked with battling demons on Earth, and both heaven and hell desire to find and control her. In the second season, Ava (Baptista) and the Sister Warriors of the OCS must find a way to defeat the angel, Adriel (William Miller), as he seeks to establish his following as the dominant religion on the planet.

Netflix’s Warrior Nun features Alba Baptista (Ava), Tristán Ulloa (Father Vincent), Kristina Tonteri-Young (Sister Beatrice), Lorena Andrea (Sister Lilith), Toya Turner (Shotgun Mary), and Thekla Reuten (Jillian Salvius). The series also stars Sylvia De Fanti (Mother Superion), Emilio Sakraya (J.C.), Olivia Delcán (Sister Camila), Joaquim De Almeida (Cardinal Duretti), May Simón Lifschitz (Chanel), Dimitri Abold (Randall), and Charlotte Vega (Zori). Barry, Jet Wilkinson, and Stephen Hegyes serve as executive producers.
