Want to skip straight to Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail? Square Enix might let you

Dawntrail heralds a fresh start for Final Fantasy 14, prompting producer Naoki Yoshida to consider allowing players to skip previous expansions altogether.

Final Fantasy 14 is undeniably an expansive game, and with the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, set to kick off a new story arc, it would be understandable if new players wanted to jump straight into it. In a recent interview with Famitsu (as translated by aitaikimochi), Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, discussed the possibility of introducing systems that would make it easier for players to skip expansions and catch up to the latest content.

Yoshi-P revealed that the Final Fantasy 14 team has introduced new in-game features that allow players to delve into the lore and background of the game’s characters and world up until the conclusion of Endwalker, or patch 6.0. If players choose to bypass this content, they would start playing from patch 6.1, which leads up to Dawntrail in patch 7.0.

While the team is working on these features, Yoshi-P actually recommends newcomers to play through all the expansions, likening it to watching a long-running TV show where you wouldn’t start at season six. The team is also uncertain about implementing these features, so for now, players may have to rely on lore compilations from YouTubers.

Currently, players can already skip main story quests by paying a small fee, but there are no mechanisms in place to catch them up on the main story beats.

We will have to wait and see if these features are added, but one thing is certain: Final Fantasy 14 will finally be coming to Xbox Series X/S next spring, after several years of anticipation.
