Belgian sensing technology firm VoxelSensors has announced its acquisition of key intellectual property (IP) and expertise from the Israeli company EyeWay Vision. This strategic move strengthens VoxelSensors’ presence in the rapidly evolving Spatial and Empathic Computing space for mobile and Extended Reality (XR) applications. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The acquisition brings VoxelSensors expertise in wearable device architectures, gaze-tracking, and natural projection technology for XR. VoxelSensors plans to integrate these technologies with their Single Photon Active Event Sensor (SPAES) tech.
Boris Greenberg, VP of XR Solutions at VoxelSensors and co-founder of EyeWay Vision, emphasized the significance of the merger, stating, “For widespread adoption, XR devices need to mimic natural human interaction through a combination of sensing and perception. By merging our technologies, we’re one step closer to truly wearable XR, unlocking a new generation of devices and immersive experiences.”
EyeWay Vision holds a portfolio of 20 granted patents (with 17 more pending) across key regions. These patents encompass a range of AR and eye/gaze tracking applications, complementing VoxelSensors’ existing IP and sensor technology. According to EyeWay, the company has raised tens of millions of dollars in funding from investors including Horizon, Verizon, Samsung Next, OurCrowd, and Iconiq. The company employs more than 70 employees, with offices in Israel and San Jose, California.
