Unreal Engine 5 Tony Hawk’s Underground Fan Remake Development Detailed in New Video

The Unreal Engine 5 is going to power some of the best games coming in the next few years, but the new version of the engine by Epic is already being used by fans to breathe new life into some older games.

MicthMakesGames recently remade the classic Tony Hawk’s Underground, recreating the game’s map and putting together some basic skating mechanics. While this fan remake may not look as amazing as some of the others shared in the past few months, the video detailing the development process is an extremely interesting watch.

As mentioned above, the Unreal Engine 5 is going to power some of the best games launching in the future, but some developers already put the engine to good use, such as Bloober Team with Layers of Fear and Hexworks with Lords of the Fallen. While far from being the best soulslike released this year, the latter is definitely the best looking, as I highlighted in my review.

Lords of the Fallen is among the first few games powered by Unreal Engine 5 to be released, and employing the new version of the development engine by Epic definitely paid off in terms of visual quality. Everything, from environmental and character model detail to lighting, shadows, visual effects, and texture quality looks incredible, making the game the first proper next-gen soulslike, at least in terms of graphics, if one can ignore some very stiff animations. It is also relatively free of visual glitches, not counting some slow vegetation loading in some areas.
