TWS Earbuds: How Qualcomm is planning to solve the ‘biggest’ problem with TWS earbuds

Almost all TWS earbuds or wireless speakers and headphones use Bluetooth as the connectivity option. Now, Bluetooth has come a long way and it has been improving in terms of audio quality as well as connectivity with every new generation. With Bluetooth 5.3 which is apparently the latest generation of Bluetooth, it has become a little more versatile, power efficient and supports high bit rate audio as well.
Problem with TWS earbuds range
The connectivity range is still limited to a certain extent. Which is somewhere around 200 metres in ideal conditions. But, most TWS earbuds claim to offer up to 10 10-metre range at max. Now, that’s good enough for keeping it connected in a relatively close range, probably throughout the house. Post that, it starts dropping the connection and the voice or music starts breaking. And, this is the biggest problem with any Bluetooth-enabled audio device.
Qualcomm has a solution
Qualcomm has introduced the new Sound Platform S7 Pro Gen 1 — which comes with Qualcomm XPAN technology which is basically a Wi-Fi-based solution for extending the range of audio devices beyond the Bluetooth range.
It is basically a dedicated Wi-Fi solution for earbuds and headphones that uses micro-power Wi-Fi connectivity along with Qualcomm Personal Area Network (XPAN) that allows these devices to stay connected to the device not only through the entire house, but for multiple floors and even entire building while supporting up to 192kHz lossless music streaming with spatial audio.
How this will solve the Bluetooth connection problem with wireless audio devices
As explained, the onboard Wi-Fi right in the chip allows for a wide range of wireless connectivity and this will allow the earbuds or speakers to stay connected to the devices while maintaining the audio bit rate and additional features like low latency and spatial audio for the entire building. This will allow users to roam around without worrying about dropping the connection in between.
