Emma Stone may have fought off hordes of undead in Zombieland, but in her upcoming film Poor Things, she finds herself brought back to life for the first time. Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for the film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, where Stone plays Bella Baxter, a woman who discovers she’s been revived after death. Despite being brought back by an unorthodox scientist (played by Willem Dafoe), Bella refuses to follow his orders and instead sets out to explore the world around her. Along the way, she meets Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), and together they seek to bring about change and equality.
Lanthimos’ first movie since 2018’s The Favourite, Poor Things is based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray. Stone and Lanthimos also collaborated on The Favourite, which saw Stone as Abigail Hill, a maid in the palace of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) who becomes embroiled in a power struggle with her advisor, Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz).
What’s Next for Emma Stone?
Following Poor Things, Stone will appear in Lanthimos’ upcoming film, And, which features a series of short stories and performances from Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, and Joe Alwyn. Stone and Lanthimos have proven to be a successful pair, and show no signs of slowing down.
