Pokémon TCG Japan’s upcoming expansion, “Ruler of the Black Flame,” set to release on Friday, will showcase the Togepi line, with a beautiful holographic Togekiss as its highlight.
We are excited to share more details and card previews from the upcoming expansion, “Ruler of the Black Flame,” part of the Scarlet & Violet era in Pokémon TCG. This expansion, set to be released on July 28th in Japan, will feature 108 cards (excluding Secret Rare cards). Notably, it will introduce Tera Pokémon, which have a unique Tera type distinct from their standard type. The Dark-type Tera Charizard ex, Fire-type Tera Eiscue ex, and Electric-type Tera Tyranitar ex are some examples of this new addition. It is also worth mentioning that “Ruler of the Black Flame” will contribute to the English-language set, “Scarlet & Violet – Obsidian Flames,” slated for release in August 2023. Additionally, this set will combine with cards from the upcoming Japanese ex Starter Decks and remnants from other Japanese sets this year. Today, we will delve into the Togepi line featured in this set.
The Togepi line receives special attention in “Ruler of the Black Flame,” where they are depicted as Psychic-types (since Fairy-type Energy is currently retired).
Togepi is illustrated in a charming and cartoonish style by Natsumi Yoshida, while Kyoko Umemoto portrays a joyful Togetic flying towards us from a floral bush. And lastly, Cona Nitanda brings us a stunning holographic Togekiss, accentuating its beauty with delicate colors and the holographic pattern of this era.
The Scarlet & Violet era pays more homage to Baby Pokémon than recent eras, which is a delightful change. We eagerly await the reveal of a potential Togepi Illustration Rare, which would be an extraordinary moment for collectors.
