Dead Island 2’s release date has been moved up by a week. According to a tweet from publisher Deep Silver, the zombie-slasher sequel has finally gone gold and is now ready to be burnt onto discs. Originally slated for an April 28 release, the game will now launch on April 21. This exciting milestone, after years of development, ended up shutting down comments from fans concerned about more delays. Deep Silver even included a sassy announcement video with the caption, “You asked for it, you got it.” Nevertheless, the decision to preponed the release date could have been made to avoid clashing with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s much-anticipated sequel set for the same day.
The game, after eight years of delays, was finally presented at Gamescom last year. It showcased the setting of a fictional version of Los Angeles overrun with zombies and plagued by a deadly virus on its streets. Players can use crafted equipment or weapons stolen from rich people to lay waste to the infected while visiting iconic tourist places in LA. Armed with a variety of weapons, including katanas, machetes, bear claws, and firearms, players will embark on a gory adventure hunting for walking dead across the city. The game also has superhuman abilities, granted to players by unfortunate zombie bites. No need to worry, though, as the protagonist is immune to the virus.
Dead Island 2, described as a “proper RPG experience,” flaunts an abundance of quests and characters for the players. It focuses on heavy dismemberment and visceral gameplay instead of free-flowing parkour action. The developer, Dambuster Studios, promises heavy replayability with multiplayer support for up to three players. Players can swap between different abilities and perks using a Skill Deck instead of a traditional skill tree. The game also uses Amazon’s new Alexa Game Control, where players use their voices to control their characters in-game.
The original release date for Dead Island 2 was set for February 3, and it was before its delay to April 28. The game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X upon its launch.
