The Reason Tom Cruise is Continuously Leading the Charge in Saving the Entire Industry

Tom Cruise may be a polarizing figure in Hollywood, given his association with Scientology and its unconventional stance on psychiatry, but there’s no denying his unwavering commitment to the projects he takes on. Not only does he prioritize the safety of his cast and crew during filming, going so far as to perform his own stunts despite his immense value to productions, but he’s also using his influence to stand up for actors in the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Rumors suggest that the iconic star of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise has been actively engaged in discussions held by the acting union with the studios, particularly regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in filmmaking. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) aims to leverage generative AI in future projects, potentially limiting background actors to single-day pay, depriving them of multiple days of compensation throughout the production. Additionally, SAG-AFTRA has expressed concerns about studios having perpetual rights to actors’ likenesses, while the AMPTP refutes these allegations, asserting that likenesses will only be licensed for one production.

Cruise, a known cinephile, played a significant role in bringing audiences back to theaters following the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s therefore understandable that he would utilize his clout to advocate for an end to the strike. However, it’s worth noting that the launch of the latest “Mission: Impossible” installment coinciding with this industrial action may have played a role in Cruise’s active involvement. After all, he’s only human.

It remains to be seen whether Cruise’s influence will yield any concrete results, as the resolution of the strike is still uncertain. While the studios’ disregard for actors and their pursuit of profit has escalated to what seems like cartoonish villainy, the duration of the strike is anyone’s guess. For now, Cruise, like his fellow colleagues, must endure the consequences, even if it means that “Dead Reckoning Part One” doesn’t receive the media attention it truly deserves.
