The Producing Mastermind behind “Rise of the Beasts” Describes the Purpose of the Mysterious Spaceship

Warning: Spoilers for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts ahead.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts marks the return of the beloved Transformers to the big screen. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., the soft reboot film introduces new characters and paves the way for exciting new adventures. The Maximals, Unicron, and the Terrorcons emerge as significant threats in the film, and human heroes Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos) and Elena Wallace (Dominique Fishback) join the Autobots in their quest to find an artifact sought out by their enemy bots. However, viewers also noticed something interesting in one shot, which appeared to be a spacecraft from another Hasbro franchise.

When Collider’s Steve Weintraub asked producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about the spacecraft’s origins, he revealed that it is indeed of alien origin. Although it resembles something from the GI Joe canon, Bonaventura explained that it was intentionally one of the ships that the Maximals landed in when they first arrived on Earth. The spacecraft’s purpose in the film was to give viewers a better understanding of how Transformers arrived on Earth.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts follows in the footsteps of Bumblebee by focusing more on characters than special effects and action sequences. Alongside the return of Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), the film features other recognizable voice talents like Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, and John DiMaggio. The sequel also continues to expand the Transformers universe by introducing new robots and incorporating more organizations like Sector Seven.

The film was written by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, and Josh Peters. The cast includes Anthony Ramos, Tobe Nwigwe, Luna Lauren Vélez, Pete Davidson, and more.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is now playing in theaters. Watch our interview with director Steven J. Cable for more insights into the making of the film.
