Nvidia’s and AMD’s midrange cards, namely the RTX 4060 Ti and the Radeon RX 7600, are expected to launch within a month, offering a more affordable alternative to some of the best graphics cards. However, there is a risk of disappointment due to VRAM.
The predicted specs of the RTX 4060 Ti suggest that it may come with 4,352 CUDA cores and with just 8GB of VRAM across a 128-bit bus, which is fewer than the mobile RTX 4070. While not everyone expects miracles from a budget graphics card, the VRAM demands set by the gaming industry may not be met with merely 8GB VRAM.
The GPUs have been listed by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), indicating their arrival. However, if these midrange or entry-level cards end up launching with high prices, the amount of VRAM may be hard to justify. With just 8GB VRAM, spending $500 on a GPU might not be sufficient for running most games at 1080p.
Depending on the way the RTX 4060 Ti and the RX 7600 are priced, previous-gen offerings might turn out to be a better deal, as AMD still has many cards with high VRAM in the previous generation. Intel also packs way more VRAM than Nvidia does for fewer costs. Hopefully, AMD and Nvidia will act sensibly and account for the fact that 8GB VRAM is not enough these days.
