Michael Keaton is causing a stir as Bruce Wayne in The Flash. Despite the film’s unfinished state, it serves as a nostalgic trip for fans who have missed his portrayal of Batman for years. This also highlights the underrated performance of another Batman actor who deserves more recognition in the history of Gotham.

Batman has had a long history since debuting in comic books in 1939, with the first film adaptation releasing in 1943, starring Lewis Wilson as Batman. It is currently available for streaming on Tubi. From then on, there have been numerous Batman projects, including the iconic television series starring Adam West from 1966 to 1968 and the 1989 film featuring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as Joker.

During this time, DC took risks with different actors taking on the role of Batman, without much concern for continuity. After Keaton reprised his role in 1992’s Batman Returns, Val Kilmer took over as Batman in 1995’s Batman Forever, followed by George Clooney in 1997’s Batman & Robin.

With the return of Keaton’s Batman in The Flash, fans can’t help but feel that Kilmer’s portrayal was underappreciated by critics. Despite his throat cancer diagnosis and the resulting damage to his voice, fans recognize Kilmer’s excellent work as Batman during his limited time with the character.

There are many fans who believe that Kilmer’s performance as Batman was underrated and deserve more recognition.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League has shown that sometimes the footage left on the cutting room floor can be more impactful than what makes it to the final film. Fans of Batman Forever feel the same way about the film.

This film was truly ahead of its time…

While Val Kilmer’s body of work includes many great performances, from Top Gun to Tombstone, his portrayal of Batman remains unforgettable to DC fans who believe he deserved more recognition for his contribution to the character.
