The First Mortal Kombat Game Unveils New Kameo Fighters in Intense Gameplay Trailer That Will Make Your Bones Crunch

The Summer Game Fest unveiled an extended trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, showcasing its violent and gritty gameplay. The game is a reboot of the universe, with Fire God Liu Kang ushering in a new timeline. Familiar characters return with updated origin stories and looks, including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who are now brothers. Ed Boon, the creator of the franchise, introduced the new Kameo Fighter system, wherein players can call upon allies mid-combo for additional damage. Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19, 2021, across multiple platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.

The gameplay trailer highlighted the game’s immersive arenas set in various locations, from an Asian restaurant to a luxurious villa reminiscent of Dead Island 2. The Fatalities are over-the-top, with gruesome scenes of skulls impaled by icicles, hearts ripped out, and opponents burned by bolts of electricity. The Kameo Fighter system allows players to choose a second roster of fighters that appear as a tag-team partner with the press of a button, offering a different set of moves based on the button combination used. While some characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Jax, and Kano will be available at launch, a complete list of Kameo fighters remains undisclosed.

Professional martial artist and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme is featured as Johnny Cage in the Kombat Pack add-on, available in Premium and Kollector’s Edition. Players who pre-order the game gain early access to Shang Tsung and beta access in August, exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X players.

Overall, Mortal Kombat 1 promises to be a thrilling and action-packed gaming experience with its upgraded visuals, new combat system, and revamped storyline. Keep an eye out for more updates on its release date.
