Tencent Holdings, one of China’s leading technology companies, announced on Thursday that it has commenced internal testing of its in-house developed artificial intelligence (AI) model. This AI model, called “Hunyuan,” is currently being integrated into various internal services and products offered by Tencent.
Tencent stated in a press release sent to Reuters that the Hunyuan model has been successfully integrated with multiple products, including Tencent Cloud, Tencent Meeting, and Tencent Docs.
The company emphasized that the Hunyuan model is entirely developed from scratch by Tencent and has now entered the application testing phase within the company.
This latest development follows the release of interim regulations by Chinese regulators last month, which provide guidelines for the use of generative AI. These regulations pave the way for Chinese tech giants like Tencent and Alibaba to introduce AI-driven products as early as late August, pending necessary approvals.
In recent months, Tencent has been focusing heavily on AI. Reuters initially reported on Tencent’s efforts to develop the Hunyuan model back in February. During a conference call with analysts in May, Tencent highlighted the significant growth potential of AI.
Tencent also revealed that the Hunyuan model has been tested by various lines of business, including Tencent Games, Tencent Advertising, QQ Browser, WeChat Search, and Tencent Fintech. According to the company, initial results have been promising, and more businesses and applications are currently being connected to the model.
