Switch Version of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection

A Space-Saving Dilemma for Snake in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection

The highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid Master Collection (Volume 1) is heading to the Nintendo Switch and other platforms. Exciting, right? Well, there’s a catch. On the Switch, players will need to download additional content off the cartridge.

Now, let’s dive into the not-so-great news. Fortunately, Konami’s website provides some additional information at the bottom of the page for those with the Switch version selected. The site reveals that only 2.4GB of the game will actually be on the physical cartridge, leaving the rest to be downloaded using your internet connection.

But it gets worse when we consider the bonus content, which will increase the total download size to a whopping 30GB. Konami explicitly states that in order to access all the available content, players must download it for free and have an internet connection. The site even suggests using a microSD card right from the start.

There is a glimmer of hope, although it may not be as promising as it sounds. The listed download sizes are currently labeled as “tentative” and will be finalized by September 2023. So while it’s not truly good news, at least there’s some room for optimism.

Download Sizes for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection on Switch: What’s Included on the Cartridge?

  • Physical Version: 24.1GB (*Front loaded onto cartridge 2.4GB)
  • Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Version: 4.8GB
  • excl. MG&MG2: 3.4GB
  • incl. MG&MG2: 4.8GB (Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake: 1.4GB)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – Master Collection Version: 8.0GB
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Master Collection Version: 12.2GB
  • Bonus Content: 1.0GB + 30 GB for bonus videos

Make sure you have everything sorted out before the game’s release on October 24, 2023!

[Thanks John!]
