Switch to Experience Fire Emblem: Game Boy Advance Revival

Super Mario Advance is Coming to Switch Online + Expansion Pack on June 23

After a period of anticipation, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will finally have access to more games with the addition of the Super Mario Advance series. Additionally, the service will also be hosting Fire Emblem, a Game Boy Advance (GBA) game, starting on June 23. You can watch the trailer here.

For those wondering, this Fire Emblem game is titled Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. Released in 2003 for the GBA, The Blazing Blade was the first installment in the series to receive an international release, helping to establish its popularity worldwide. Due to localization decisions, it was brought over simply as “Fire Emblem.”

What’s the Story Behind Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade?

Although chronologically a prequel to 2002’s The Binding Blade, The Blazing Blade can still be enjoyed as a standalone game. It served as the introduction to the Fire Emblem series for many players and is a great starting point for newcomers interested in joining conversations with veteran fans.

Here’s a summarized plot from Nintendo:

“In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the nation of Lycia teeters on the brink of war after centuries of peace. Noble houses plot treason, former allies become enemies, and armies prepare for combat. Amidst the chaos, a mysterious figure orchestrates the manipulation of empires from the shadows. Lyn, along with Eliwood and Hector, must gather their own army to defend against these destructive forces. As the world stands at risk of being destroyed, you will recruit heroes, train them to be skilled warriors, and lead them into battle. Tactical decision-making is vital as you strategize your moves on varying terrains and conditions. Take command of the battlefield, fulfill specific objectives, and guide your units to victory. But be aware: in this Fire Emblem game, if one of your soldiers falls in battle, they are gone forever.”

So, it’s classic Fire Emblem action! As a fan-favorite and one of my personal top picks in the series, I highly recommend giving it a try, especially if you’re seeking entertainment on a rainy weekend.
