Supreme Court delivers unfavorable verdict to Uber, Ola, and Rapido.

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold the ban on bike taxi services in Delhi is a significant setback for Uber, Ola, and Rapido. The move revokes the Delhi High Court’s previous order, which had allowed these ride-hailing aggregators to continue offering their services. The Delhi government challenged the HC order due to violations of motor vehicle laws, which prohibit bikes from being used for commercial purposes. The court acknowledged that the government is in the process of formulating a policy for granting licenses to bike taxi aggregators and has stayed the operations of the bike taxis until the Delhi government issues guidelines on the matter. Uber noted that this decision could negatively impact the livelihoods of its bike riders, highlighting the fact that in Delhi last year, people took more than 1.9 million trips to and from metro rail stations on Uber Moto. With the ban reinstated, Uber, Ola, and Rapido face fresh challenges as they navigate the Indian ride-hailing market.
