A team of students in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences placed 11th in competition at the 28th annual conference of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges Northeast Region held April 12 and 13 in Albany, NY.
The student competition is an algorithmic programming contest, with teams of three representing their schools working to solve real-world problems and foster coloration, creativity, innovation and the ability to perform under pressure in the three-hour competition.
The SUNY trio were:
- Alim A. Darmenov, a sophomore Computer Science major from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is a graduate of The Fernie Academy, British Columbia, Canada
- Tyler J. Ferrari, first-year, Computer Science major, Fairport, NY. He is a graduate of Fairport High School;
- Landers M. Sanchez, first-year, Computer Science major, Webster, NY. He is a graduate of Webster Schroeder High School.
The students were accompanied at the conference by Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences Ziya Arnavut.
SUNY Fredonia was one of 20 schools from across New York and several other states that fielded teams at the conference that featured papers, panels, tutorials, workshops, lightning talks and faculty, graduate and undergraduate student posters.
Funding support to attend the conference was furnished by the Office of Student Creative Activity and Research (OSCAR).
