In addition to blocking and reporting, these safety tools provide a new privacy feature. This feature ensures that senders do not know when their messages have been read unless the recipient replies or adds the unknown contact to their address book. This adds more control and privacy to conversations.
WhatsApp also allows users to silence unknown callers through the Silence Unknown Callers function. This feature enhances privacy by intelligently blocking spam, scams, and calls from unfamiliar contacts.
To silence an unknown caller on WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp on your smartphone
- Go to the Settings menu

- Tap on the ‘Privacy’ option
- Tap on the ‘Calls’ option
- Select ‘Silence Unknown Callers’
