Sony TVs now support Zoom video calls: How does it work?

Remote working scenarios among companies, which saw a significant increase during the pandemic, are now gradually declining. However, Sony has exciting news for users who are still able to work from home or have hybrid arrangements with their employers. Sony users will soon have the ability to attend virtual meetings from the comfort of their living room TVs. The Bravia range of TVs from Sony will be the first hardware to support the upcoming Zoom for TV app on Google Play. This announcement comes after Apple revealed that FaceTime will be available for Apple TVs (via mounted iPhones) later this year at its annual developer conference, WWDC 2023.

How will it work?
Sony’s Bravia TV lineup does not come with built-in webcams. Therefore, users will need to purchase a separate accessory called the Bravia Cam in order to use this feature. In addition to enabling Zoom calls, the accessory will also have the capability to adjust sound and picture settings based on the user’s location and distance from the TV. The Bravia Cam will also allow users to control their TVs using hand gestures, eliminating the need to pick up the remote. Additionally, this accessory will provide a proximity alert if it detects children sitting too close. It will also include a power-saving mode that automatically dims the screen when the TV is not in use.

Sony Bravia Cam: Availability
According to a report by Engadget, Sony has announced that the Zoom for TV app will be available for Bravia TVs “by early summer.” Shusuke Tomonaga, the head of Bravia product design at Sony, stated, “This partnership will enable our customers to have more immersive video communication on a large TV screen in their living room, allowing them to stay connected with the people they care about, whether they are working from home, learning remotely, or simply catching up with friends and family.”
