“With the new pen tool, you can circle, underline, draw connections, or make quick notes directly on your presentation,” said Google.
This tool enables users to highlight and emphasize important content while presenting in Google Slides.
“Whether you’re in a board meeting or a brainstorming session, annotations can make your presentations more engaging, interactive, and impactful,” added Google.
This feature is similar to Microsoft PowerPoint, where users have long been able to doodle on their slides.
How to Access the Tool
According to Google, users can access the tool from the three-dot menu located at the bottom left of the screen during a presentation.
- Click the ‘Slideshow’ button in the app bar to enter ‘slideshow mode’
- Hover over the bottom-left side of the viewer and click on the ellipsis icon to open the three-dot menu
- Select “Turn on the pen.” Users can choose from four different pen colors: blue, red, green, and black.
- To erase annotations, use the eraser tool located in the bottom-left viewer menu.
Availability
The annotation feature will be rolling out to most Google Slides users (Scheduled Release domains) within the next two weeks, starting August 23. For rapid release domains, the rollout has already begun. Annotations will be available to all Google Slides users.
Earlier this year, Google introduced AI capabilities to Slides, including a “Help me visualize” panel on the right side of the screen. This feature allows users to enter prompts and receive image responses. Users can then choose a “Style” for their slides, including options like Photography, Illustration, Flat lay, Background, and Clipart.
