A reboot, reimagining, remake, or even a requel seems to be inevitable for any horror property these days. Legacy sequels are all the rage in the genre, opening up possibilities for even the most revered classics. Now, it appears that the rumors surrounding the secretive Apartment 7A project are proving to be true.
Last summer, reports surfaced about a secret project that would serve as a prequel to Roman Polanski’s iconic horror film, Rosemary’s Baby. As one of the most influential and beloved tales of terror in cinematic history, Rosemary’s Baby garnered critical acclaim, commercial success, and multiple award nominations.
Apartment 7A was initially announced as a project for Paramount Plus. However, considering the recent success of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, the latest Scream films, and Evil Dead Rise at the box office, it wouldn’t be surprising if the prequel receives a theatrical release. Official confirmation regarding the distribution has yet to be provided.
Nevertheless, the prequel has undergone test screenings. These screenings have revealed that the audience will finally discover Rosemary Woodhouse’s backstory before the birth of her life-altering child.
Is a Rosemary’s Baby prequel necessary? Absolutely not. However, if it can justify its existence and deliver a compelling story, it might earn some forgiveness. The involvement of Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes as producers, though, might leave some fans with doubts about the project’s quality.
