Sean Gunn Passively Acknowledges Speculation That He Avoids Criticizing WB

Sean Gunn unexpectedly found himself at the center of controversy within the entertainment industry. As actors and writers go on strike, he voiced his concerns over the lack of royalties he receives from his time on the popular show, Gilmore Girls, which Netflix acquired the rights to. However, it was Warner Bros., not Netflix, who is responsible for the payments. Despite this, conspiracy theories emerged alleging that Gunn accused Netflix to avoid conflict with his brother, James Gunn, who is a co-CEO of DC Studios.

In response to the situation, Gunn indirectly addressed the matter when he called out The Hollywood Reporter for deleting the video without acknowledging that he never mentioned “residuals.” Instead, he emphasized that they do not receive proper compensation for the number of views on Netflix, but only receive a small amount based on licensing from Warner Bros. He urged The Hollywood Reporter to improve their reporting.

Gunn further elaborated in a follow-up video, stating that Netflix pays a licensing fee to Warner Bros., who then provide residuals that are significantly low for a show that has been off the air for a long time. Despite the show’s immense success and profitability on Netflix, the actors do not share in those profits.

Gunn’s point remains valid, but it wouldn’t be social media without some unfounded conspiracy theories.
