Samsung India has announced the selection of the top 30 teams for its prestigious youth education and innovation competition, ‘Solve for Tomorrow’. This competition aims to foster a culture of innovative thinking and problem-solving among Indian youth, and it invited ideas from 16-22-year-olds to address problems in four key areas: Education and Learning, Health and Wellness, Environment and Sustainability, and Diversity and Inclusion.

The response to Solve for Tomorrow 2023 has been incredible, with over 70,000 registrations from young people across 500 cities, towns, and villages in India. This overwhelming participation reflects the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of the nation.

For the second year of this CSR program, Samsung India has partnered with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology’s (MeitY’s) Startup Hub and the Foundation for Innovation Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi.

Among the top 30 teams selected, 44% focused on Education and Learning, 23% on Environment and Sustainability, 20% on Diversity and Inclusion, and 13% on Health and Wellness. These teams represent 15 states and 1 union territory across India, showcasing the diverse participation in the competition.

The youth from these top 30 teams have submitted innovative ideas to tackle real-world problems. Some of these ideas include converting sea water into potable water, addressing drinking and driving, skilling of youth, improving efficiency of solar panels, finding missing children, early detection of diseases in women using menstrual blood samples, addressing mental health, reducing food wastage, identifying diseases in crops, protecting teenagers against inappropriate content, and addressing gender bias in STEM fields, among others.

Hyun Kim, Corporate Vice President of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed excitement about the overwhelming response to the competition and the selection of the top 30 teams. He believes in harnessing the power of youth and their skills to drive positive social change.

Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, expressed his happiness in partnering with the Solve for Tomorrow program. He believes that the selected teams from across India will provide innovative solutions to the country’s and the world’s problems. He sees initiatives like this as transformative for India’s innovation ecosystem.

The top 30 teams will receive online training on design thinking and innovation and will be mentored by Samsung and its partners at a residential bootcamp at IIT Delhi. They will also receive a grant of Rs 20,000 each to create initial prototypes. They will pitch their ideas to a jury of young Samsung employees and experts from FITT, IIT Delhi, and MeitY Startup Hub. The final top 10 teams will be selected for the next phase of the competition.

Additionally, the top 30 teams will have the opportunity to visit Samsung India offices, including its R&D centers, design center, and Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru. This visit will allow them to interact with Samsung employees and researchers, further enhancing their insights and knowledge.

Overall, Samsung India’s Solve for Tomorrow competition is a testament to the company’s commitment to empowering youth and encouraging their innovative ideas. It is a platform that nurtures their talents and drives positive change in the digital era.
