Samsung’s latest teaser for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the upcoming July 26th Unpacked event shows the waterdrop hinge in action. When the clamshell is closed, there are no gaps, as confirmed by the teaser. This puts to rest the Twitter debate on whether there is a gap or not. The answer lies with Samsung, the creator of the teaser and the owner of the Twitter account.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 brings more than just the elimination of the gap. One of the most exciting changes is the larger Cover Display, which measures an impressive 3.4 inches compared to the 1.9-inch external screens on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

However, leaked images suggest that despite the larger Cover Display, Samsung has not optimized Google’s core apps for it. The external screen will display widgets showing the weather, time, battery life, and call history. It’s unclear if other apps will be available on the external screen.
If you compare this to the 3.6-inch Quick View external display on the Razr+, it’s less impressive. The Razr+ enables users to access various apps like Google Maps, YouTube, and Messages without opening the device. Hopefully, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have app support for the Cover Display at launch or soon after.
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and its larger sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, at the Samsung Unpacked event on July 26th. Joining the foldables on stage will be the Galaxy Watch 6 series and the Galaxy Tab S9 line, including the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra with its 14.6-inch display. The event starts at 7 am EDT and 4 am PDT, while in Seoul, it begins at 8 pm.
