Sales of ‘Iron Lung’ skyrocket following the disappearance of Titanic submarine

The indie survival horror game Iron Lung has experienced a surge in sales thanks to the ongoing search for the missing Titanic submarine.

While efforts are being made to locate the missing submersible, gamers have been drawn to Iron Lung. This indie horror game takes place aboard a small submarine with limited capabilities, stranded beneath an ocean of blood on an alien moon.

However, the game’s developer, David Szymanski, expressed his discomfort with the situation on Twitter. He stated, “this feels so wrong” and added, “I feel kinda uncomfortable about it tbh.”

Szymanski explained, “I definitely see the dark humor in this whole Titanic sub thing. It’s just… like, I made Iron Lung the most nightmarish thing I could think of, and knowing real people are in that situation right now is pretty horrific, even if it was their own bad decisions.”

The missing submarine is currently occupied by billionaire Hamish Harding and four others, including Strathclyde University student Suleman Dawood and his father, Shahzada Dawood.

The similarities between the game and the real-life calamity are striking. The submarine in both instances was bolted shut from the outside, and its low-tech controller resembles the interior of Iron Lung‘s submersible.

The missing submersible had set out to explore the wreckage of the Titanic before its disappearance.

Szymanski remarked, “Like all the jokes I’ve been seeing are hilarious but also good lord nobody should have to die like that.”

Meanwhile, players of the submarine survival game Barotrauma have been attempting to recreate the interior of the missing Titanic submersible.

In other gaming news, Nintendo has confirmed that a sequel to the popular 3DS game, Detective Pikachu, entitled Detective Pikachu Returns, is in the works. Additionally, a new 2D Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder is on the horizon.
