Rift Apart PC Patch Solves Various Visual Bugs

Insomniac Games and Nixxes have recently released a new patch for the PC version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This update (version 1.728.0.0) addresses several bugs, particularly visual ones, as outlined below.

  • Fixed texture streaming problems that caused certain textures to remain low resolution.
  • Resolved visual issues with water reflections when ambient occlusion was not set to SSAO.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the interact button prompt to persist on the screen.
  • Addressed a visual issue with weapon previews at the vendor for ultra-wide resolutions.
  • Various bug fixes, stability improvements, and optimizations.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was initially released for PlayStation 5, and just recently made its debut on PC. The PC version, developed by Nixxes, offers a range of advanced features, including support for upscalers like NVIDIA DLSS 2 & 3/DLAA, AMD FSR 2.1, and Intel XeSS. It also incorporates Insomniac Games’ Temporal Injection (IGTI), which introduces ray traced effects for reflections, shadows, and ambient occlusion. Additionally, the game supports ultrawide resolutions up to 48:9 aspect ratios, and notably, it is the first PC game to feature DirectStorage 1.2 support with GPU decompression.

However, there have been a few challenges with the release. Initially, ray tracing effects were not available for AMD graphics cards due to stability issues. Insomniac and Nixxes have yet to provide an official update regarding when ray tracing support for AMD GPUs will be available.

In his analysis of the PC port, Alexander Battaglia from Digital Foundry highlighted several issues, including missing transparency effects, problems with shadow rendering and texture loading, and occasional crashes. It is hoped that Nixxes and Insomniac will address these concerns to ensure that the game performs optimally on PC. For more information about the game, please refer to our PS5 review.
