Rift Apart Doesn’t Support Ray Tracing on AMD GPUs Due to Stability Issues

Yesterday, Nixxes Software, the developer of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, confirmed that the game would not initially support ray tracing on AMD GPUs. However, with the release of the Adrenalin Edition 23.7.2 driver, we now have more information on this matter.

According to the update notes, playing the game with ray tracing and Dynamic Resolution Scaling enabled on certain AMD GPUs, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, may result in application crashes or driver timeouts. The update notes also mention that AMD is actively collaborating with the game developers to address these stability issues, but no estimated time of resolution has been provided.

All things considered, it appears that playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on an NVIDIA GPU is the recommended choice for experiencing the game at its best during launch. The latest PlayStation to PC port, which includes NVIDIA DLSS 3, will be available today. This update promises significant performance improvements through features such as Frame Generation, NVIDIA Reflex, NVIDIA DLAA, and DirectStorage 1.2 with GPU decompression, enabling higher bandwidth for streaming assets from storage to the graphics card. To determine if your system is capable of running the game, please refer to the official PC system requirements.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is currently available on PlayStation 5 and will be globally released on PC later today.
