As the world grapples with climate change, the creation of low-carbon places has become a critical component in achieving decarbonization. However, the question remains where and how these low-carbon places are made.

This research article provides insights into this question by focusing on three ‘infrastructure junctions’ – places where various practices and processes collide and combine to shape the power geometries of low-carbon place-making. By examining these junctions, the authors reveal both the conflictual and consensual dimensions of low-carbon transitions and how they’re influenced by hardware management and contextual realities.

Overall, this study offers crucial insights to assess, steer, and accelerate low-carbon place-making as a relational process that is manifest and mediated through infrastructure. According to the authors, infrastructure junctions offer a ripe ground to examine where, how, when, and for whom low-carbon places are being made.

The research is published in the Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift—Norwegian Journal of Geography.
