Reportedly, an AAA Video Game based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is currently in development.

A highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, inspired by The Last Ronin graphic novels, is reportedly in the works. In an exclusive interview with Polygon, Doug Rosen, the senior VP for games and emerging media at Paramount Global, assured fans that this upcoming action-packed game will be reminiscent of the critically acclaimed God of War series on the Sony PlayStation. Designed for mature audiences, just like the graphic novels, the game is expected to be released in a few years and is currently being developed by an undisclosed studio. While the platform has not been confirmed, it is likely that the game will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

For those unfamiliar with The Last Ronin storyline, it is a highly gripping five-issue miniseries set in a dystopian and war-torn New York City. Three out of the four Ninja Turtles have tragically lost their lives, leaving only one survivor determined to avenge his fallen family. In order to carry out his mission, the lone Turtle wears a black mask and wields the weapons of his fallen brothers, including dual katanas, sai, nunchaku, and a bo staff. The identity of the Turtle remains a secret until the final pages of the first issue, where he confronts Shredder’s grandson. The upcoming video game will faithfully follow this narrative, with players assuming the role of the central character. However, flashback sequences may allow players to control the other Turtles as well. As the protagonist carries his brothers’ armaments, players can expect the game to offer the ability to switch between weapons.

While Rosen did not disclose the name of the development studio, he expressed confidence in having found the perfect partner to ensure the video game adaptation of The Last Ronin maintains the highest quality standards. He also hinted at the possibility of more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games in the future, catering to both younger and older audiences. The TMNT franchise has recently experienced a resurgence, with acclaimed titles such as TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, a beat ’em up game that allows up to six players to team up against enemies like the Foot Clan and Triceraton Warriors. Last year, fans were also treated to The Cowabunga Collection, a compilation of retro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games that evoked a sense of nostalgia among long-time enthusiasts.

Additionally, fans can look forward to a new animated movie titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which embraces a distinctive artistic style and animation reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Directed by Jeff Rowe (known for Disenchantment), the film follows the four Ninja Turtles as they venture to the surface in an attempt to win the hearts of the people of New York. While the Turtles themselves are voiced by teenage actors, the supporting cast boasts renowned names such as Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Maya Rudolph, and more.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is still in its early stages of development, and it is anticipated to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Rosen has promised to share further updates and details in the upcoming months and years.
