Report: YouTube Conducts Internal Testing of Online Gaming Product

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, YouTube is currently conducting internal testing of a new product aimed at online gaming. An email sent to Google employees revealed that the company is inviting them to test out the product, called ‘Playables’. Among the games available for testing is the arcade game Stack Bounce.

These games can be played on YouTube’s website through web browsers or on devices that run Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS mobile systems. A spokesperson for YouTube mentioned that gaming has always been a priority for the company and they are constantly experimenting with new features. However, there is no official announcement at this time.

The decision to host online games on YouTube aligns with CEO Neal Mohan’s strategy to explore new areas of growth as advertising spending slows down. YouTube is already a popular platform for streaming games and watching live gameplay, so adding online gaming to their offerings seems like a logical step.

The report states that several games are available for employee testing, with Stack Bounce being highlighted as one of the ad-supported arcade games. In this game, players need to smash layers of bricks using a bouncing ball.

Introducing online gaming on YouTube provides the platform with another source of revenue from the gaming industry. Additionally, YouTube is expanding its features and is set to launch its first official shopping channel for live commerce in South Korea on June 30, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
