Report states TCS and ITI secure 1 lakh 4G site purchase order from BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run telecommunications firm, has issued a purchase order (PO) to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and ITI Limited for the deployment of 1 lakh 4G sites, as reported by CNBC Awaaz. The deployment was approved by the Group of Ministers on May 8, and TCS, a part of the Tata group, will supply 4G equipment for 100,000 sites at a total cost of nearly Rs 24500 crore, including network gear for about Rs 13,000 crores. The deal also includes third-party items and a 10-year annual maintenance contract. Meanwhile, ITI won an APO worth Rs 3,889 crores for Reservation Quota Order in the west zone. The company is set to manufacture the Radio Access Network (RAN) and carry out planning, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning, in addition to an Annual Maintenance Contract of 4G network for 23,633 sites in the west zone.

Apart from this, the Union Cabinet recently approved a third revival package for BSNL worth Rs 89,047 crores, which includes the allotment of 4G/5G spectrum through equity infusion. With access to this spectrum, BSNL will provide pan-India 4G and 5G services, extend 4G coverage to rural and uncovered areas, offer fixed wireless access services, and provide spectrum for captive non-public networks. According to Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, BSNL will use locally developed telecom stack by C-Dot, in collaboration with TCS, to roll out the 4G and 5G network. The live testing of 200 sites has already started, and after 3-4 months, the network will be ramped up with the installation of 100-200 sites daily.
