The purpose of this acquisition is to enhance Jio Platforms’ 5G and broadband services by leveraging Mimosa’s point-to-point and point-to-multipoint products. In March, when the deal was initially announced, Reliance Industries had stated that Mimosa brings a diverse portfolio of connectivity products using unlicensed spectrum bands.
The agreement between Jio Platform’s Radisys Corp and Airspan Networks, which owns Mimosa, was disclosed earlier this year. According to Mathew Oommen, President of Jio, the acquisition of Mimosa will further drive innovation and leadership in the production of telecom network products that offer value to consumers and enterprises worldwide.
Mimosa will now operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Radisys. Its products are expected to enable the rapid deployment of high-speed fixed wireless access (FWA) networks and wireless backhaul connectivity for telecommunications systems, as per RIL’s statement.
Mimosa’s portfolio includes products based on WiFi 5 and the newer WiFi 6E technologies, along with related accessories like twist-on antennas. These solutions are relevant for backhaul requirements in 5G and FTTX/FWA rollouts. Jio has been a significant customer of Mimosa, according to the company’s statement.
