Rajouri-Poonch anti-terror ops Day 6: Mobile internet shut, Army chief Gen Manoj Pande to chair meet

Mobile internet services will remain suspended in Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir for the third day in a row as the security forces are engaged in an anti-terror operation following a targeted attack that killed four soldiers in Poonch district last week.

As the anti-terror operations, including increased aerial surveillance and intensified ground combing operations in the sector, especially in the forest belt of Dera Ki Gali and Bafliyaz, entered Day 6, Army chief General Manoj Pande is set to visit the sector on Monday.

The Army chief will chair an important security review meeting at White Knight Corps Headquarters in Jammu’s Nagrota.

Meanwhile, the Army has ordered an internal probe into the killing of three civilians in Poonch, hours after heavily armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles at a blind curve near Dhatyar Morh in the Poonch district, killing four armymen and injuring two others on Thursday.

According to sources, the army plans to take disciplinary action against some officers and rejig the postings of others.

Meanwhile, five injured civilians are being treated at different hospitals in the Poonch-Rajouri sector.

Speaking on Thursday’s terrorist attack in Poonch, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said, the central government and all other political parties should come together, keeping aside their differences, to end terrorism.

The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), reportedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorists shared pictures from the attack site on social media, which showed sophisticated US-made M4 carbine assault rifles.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the mortal remains of Naik Virendra Singh of Chamoli district and Rifleman Gautam Kumar of Pauri Garhwal district, who lost their lives in the Poonch terror attack.

The mortal remains of both the soldiers will be taken to their native villages later today.
