Pokemon Go players “throw away” these hated Research Tasks

Nathan Ellingsworth

Not every Research Task is created equal, but it seems that within the Pokemon Go community, one type in particular is making fans throw away the tasks to avoid them altogether.

There are plenty of ways to earn new items in Pokemon Go, and one of the most lucrative is completing Research Tasks. These short challenges often task players with simple goals like “Make 3 Curve Ball Throws” or occasionally “Take a Snapshot of a Wild Pokemon”.

Not all the tasks are this simple though, and as Niantic and Pokemon Go have veered more directly into the realms of AR, there’s one type of Research Task that keeps popping up.

Many Pokemon Go players will have noticed a Research Task asking players to scan a real object in the world, seemingly to help build up maps of the area, but the task is a bugbear in the community.

Pokemon Go players hate 3D scanning Research Tasks

In a Reddit post on the subject, one user shared a comment saying, “Anyone else just immediately throw scans away?” with a picture of a task asking the player to scan a nearby landmark.

Thankfully, many people in the comments are sharing their best tips for avoiding the tasks, as one comment underneath the post adds, “I just keep 1 so I don’t have to keep deleting it.”

Meanwhile, another player adds their own spin to the story, saying, “I have a task from a stop that’s not even there any more. Definitely not deleting that haha.”

Not everyone seems to hate these tasks, as one person chimes in the comments, saying “I do the task for poffins otherwise I let it ride.” Then another person backs them up, adding “I only do them for rare candy or poffins ngl.”

One user shares their own tactics to avoid the tasks, though we can’t verify the authenticity of the claim, as they say, “I don’t get scan tasks anymore, they caught on that I only submit video of my feet.”

Finally, some users seem to keep the tasks unless they only reward Poke Balls, as responding to the original comment, one person replies, saying “Only if they’re for Pokeballs. I’ve been using Poffins to get Best Buddies and, more importantly, to speed up XL candy grinding.”
